Surprise Party
Have you ever organized a surprise party for a family member?
Gosh, it is almost like managing a big event. The funny part is that your
family member for whom the party is organized will most likely find out before
the party and pretend to be ignorant (thanks to 100’s of relatives who will
laugh after spoiling the surprise or the oldies who would mention it and then
try to hide it with random explanations). Let’s just say, despite the glitches,
if you manage to arrange a fool proof surprise party, the surprise will only last
for few seconds which took days of planning and created a hole in your pocket.
Are surprise parties worth it? I wasn’t sure after planning
one and gifting it to my dad on his 50th birthday. But then, I was
looking at the party pictures a day after the full drama happened. And I saw
him smiling. In each and every picture. In every moment. He was so happy
throughout the event. No matter what clues he got, no matter how close he was
to cracking that surprise, but he didn’t know all. And the presence of everyone
trying to make it a gala event for him had its effects. It is then when I
realized that the effort that goes behind it, the crazy discussions, the going
over the board for making everything picture perfect for your loved ones, is totally
worth it.
I guess that’s how surprise parties gained their popularity.
Not because they were a surprise but because it shows how much you care about
the other person. The feeling is blissful for both the sides. And you land up
having good time yourselves. So if you haven’t done it in a long time, I
suggest go for it. You would love the craziness, the whispers in your house,
the lies to hide the real suspense, the stupid faces which try to cover up
spilled beans and the effort which your family member will put in to ignore it
and yearning to find out the truth. Obviously the gifts, the cake, the people,
the songs, the dances, the food add to the fun element. But the most precious
thing was when my dad walked up to us after the party and said, that he doesn’t
remember celebrating his birthday so grand and effortless ever before. Made my
day! Totally !!
